Information for employers
The Petroleum Driver Passport (PDP) scheme has been live since early 2014.
How to obtain the Petroleum Driver Passport
To achieve a PDP card, which will expire after five years, drivers will undertake PDP training and a full written (multiple choice) assessment (25W), set by SQA. They will also take a practical assessment (25P) with a qualified and approved PDP assessor. These have to be passed within four months of one another and can be taken in any order.
When renewing a PDP card, a driver would have to pass the full exam (25W) and practical assessment (25P) in the four month period prior to the outgoing card's expiry date in order to have five years added on to their original expiry date. Again, these can be passed in any order.
In order to maintain the validity of their PDP, drivers are required to undertake annual classroom training and an annual practical assessment. Records of annual training and assessment will be held on SQA’s secure system.
